My husband loves this cake, and for his birthday I was wondering if I could add a twist to it by turning it into a checkerboard cake. It’s a fabulous recipe and quick to put together. You eat it. I also make this using a vanilla bean frosting where I beat a stick of butter for 5 min, add softened cream cheese, beat for another 5 min, add a minimal amt of powdered sugar (2 cups), vanilla bean scrapings, and 1 TLB vanilla extract. I forgot to add that this cake actually freezes really well frosted (I freeze leftovers when I want to avoid eating the rest of the cake by myself.
