Obviously 3 is out, but what about 1 and 2? With the number of counters in the metagame at an all-time low, I’d be a bit surprised not to see the return of it as a card that’s not vulnerable to Mass Manipulation and can allow for absolutely brutal setups. Teferi doesn't solve any of Arbiter's big problems either, so what good is he really? Control players live for the card draw and tuck mechanics! Comparatively, [[Deglamer]] and [[Unravel the Aether]] tuck the card for only 2 mana at instant speed, and I don't think I need to mention [[Swords to Plowshares]]. ), New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Teferi is the best card in standard but comparing his power to Jace in standard is a complete joke. Why? The three that come to my mind are Brago, Derevi, and GAAIV. 9/26 Magic Online Challenge Magic Online. ChannelFireball - Magic: The Gathering Strategy, Singles, Cards, Decks. Remember when the Phyrexians invaded and he abandoned Dominaria to its fate? We have yet to see a tier 1 deck stay tier 1 throughout the entirety of War of the Spark Standard, which is not something that could be said often over the past five years. They’ll only be good for a short while, but if you’re trying to win a Mythic Championship, we’ve seen that one good weekend is all you need. It's not an issue of his power level itself, but the issue is that a deck with Teferi doesn't need a win condition other than continuously tucking himself and deck your opponent. 11/07 SCG Tour Online Satellite #5 Magic Arena. Those are two card-slots and two different effects, though. At the beginning of the next end step, untap up to two lands. Your deck needs to be so slow and grindy that it benefits from the slow-acting incremental value of a planeswalker and can protect it reasonably well. (Although it's WAY too high a CMC for cEDH, thought it was neat.). Teferi Hero of Dominaria: +1: Draw a card. Thank you for your thorough reply, and a good blog post too. Whatever your opinion of the card itself, the impact it has had on Standard is undeniable and it presents a few interesting questions from a top down view of the format. Which is a tad scary if you think about it, because Teferi is at least on par with JTMS in modern. −3: Put target nonland permanent into its owner's library third from the top. Teferi's -3 does what I want right now since big weaknesses to my deck is Linvala/Cursed Totem, Torpor Orb/Huswing Gryff, Merieke Ri Berit and Elesh Norn. One other key factor is that MTG Arena has seemingly done what years of information hoarding by Wizards has never accomplished. You can remember it by -ite- not –ate-.Have a nice day! Chain Veil isn't good because it gives you one extra activation, it's good because it gives you infinite extra activations. You may read it at your leisure, but the key point is that for a planeswalker to be good in CEDH, at least one of three qualities must be fulfilled: They need to do what you want right away. Teferi's +1 is decent since it lets me tap out on my turn, and I still have mana open to either counter or activate Roon to remove a troublesome creature/attacker or gain additional value with blinking. Could you explain why? Not only did Nexus decks fallen into a deep dark hole, they eventually started cutting Wilderness Reclamation because Teferi made it useless. 10/24 October Zendikar Rising League Weekend Magic Arena. But the reason that Brago and Derevi run Stasis is because they can break parity on it so easily, so Teferi is unnecessary here. We already have every 'walker worth running. For the second question, we can look to the current state of Nexus of Fate decks for the answer. So 1 seems unlikely, but what about in grindy decks? If you draw Swords, but need to remove a Cursed Totem, or Deglamer and need to remove Linvala, you're still in trouble. Press J to jump to the feed. While these instances can occur when popular streamers start popping off with spicy lists, in general I’ve not seen this level of individual variety in decks in… I don’t even know how long. 9/19 Magic Online Challenge Magic Online. 10/17 Magic Online Challenge Magic Online. You just play the card in Simic Nissa ramp decks now as a trump in the mirror and against normal decks that aren’t expecting it. It’s no surprise to see card drawing on a blue planeswalker, but unlike Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and Teferi, Time Raveler, Teferi, Master of Time isn’t pure card drawing. Unlike other oppressive planeswalkers, the abilities on Teferi without a metagame context aren’t actually strong enough that you would slam Teferi into every deck you could. It's a pretty good card, but it can get aggro'd out. Types: Legendary Planeswalker — Teferi. At the beginning of the next end step, untap up to two lands. Jace had way better support cards compared to Teferi.Best card Teferi has is Azcanta which albeit great is nowhere near SFM + Swords level.People forget that Jace wasnt an instant hit in Standard and took him some time to become insane. As for the current Standard metagame, it seems to be in flux around Teferi’s popularity at a given time. The results of a team event should be processed a bit differently from the results of an individual tournament. Post Rotation, we'll see.
